Our communities are continuously addressing major challenges with the lack of STEM education and the need for our future young leaders to solve them and express how their ideas can only be tackled by STEM but they lack the skills to put these kinds of solutions into action. Certain communities are not presented with the opportunity outside of school to engage with STEM subjects in a fun, hands-on manner. Translating into a disproportionate number of children missing out on STEM jobs, which tend to have higher earnings potential. STEM jobs have larger gender and ethnicity gaps than other fields. The Seeds to STEM approach benefits this under served population by providing children an access point to gain the STEM and leadership skills employers are seeking. Through hands-on STEM activities that teach students how to improve community issues, Seeds to STEM, increases the positive attitudes of youth toward STEM. This decreases poverty and strengthens families by teaching students career-driven STEM skills that promote cooperative rather than competitive experiences, while providing a safe environment where youth can learn science, technology, engineering and math and become positive agents of change.
